Make this rich, creamy, and layered Mississippi Mud Pie. This no-bake dessert features a cookie crust, fudgy filling, and whipped topping, making it a showstopper for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate wafer cookie crumbs (or Oreo crumbs)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Mix the cookie crumbs and melted butter together. Press the mixture firmly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Place the crust in the freezer while you prepare the filling.
  2. Make the cream cheese layer: In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until combined. Fold in half of the thawed whipped topping until just blended. Spread this mixture evenly over the chilled crust.
  3. Prepare the pudding layer: In a separate bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until the mixture thickens. Spread this pudding mixture over the cream cheese layer.
  4. Chill the pie: Cover the pie loosely and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until the pudding is set.
  5. Make the topping: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  6. Assemble the pie: Spread the remaining half of the whipped topping over the set pudding layer. If you prefer, you can use the freshly whipped cream mixture for a lighter topping.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the top generously with chocolate shavings. Chill the finished pie for at least 1 hour before slicing and serving this party ready treat.

Notes

  • For an Oreo crust dessert variation, use crushed Oreo cookies, omitting the cream filling from the cookies.
  • You can substitute the instant pudding with a homemade chocolate custard for a richer flavor.
  • If you need a frozen dessert recipe, use softened vanilla ice cream mixed with a small amount of chocolate syrup instead of the pudding layer, then freeze until firm.
